Royal Society Africa Prize 2025 (£2,000 prize)

The Africa Prize is awarded to scientists based in Africa who are making an innovative contribution to the biological or physical sciences which contributes significantly to capacity building in Africa. The prize was previously the Royal Society Pfizer Award which was last awarded in 2016. The Royal Society Africa Prize 2024 is awarded to Professor Ali Baklouti for his groundbreaking work in non-commutative harmonic analysis and geometry on homogeneous spaces. The grant supports research projects with long-term potential, aimed at fostering capacity building in Africa. It is designed to encourage the development of scientific expertise and the advancement of research across the continent, ensuring that projects can continue beyond the initial 12-month period of funding. Professor Baklouti’s work represents a significant contribution to mathematical research, with applications that extend into various scientific fields. Through this prestigious award, the Royal Society recognizes not only the importance of his research but also its potential to inspire and elevate the broader scientific community in Africa. The grant will enable further exploration in this area, strengthening the region’s research capabilities and contributing to global scientific progress.

Nomination

Nominations are now open and will close on February 21, 2025. Nominations will remain valid and shall be considered by the award selection committee throughout three nomination cycles.
